Best Books for newborn to 3-month-old
Best Books for newborn to 3-month-old
The best Books for newborns are the ones with more contrast (books with black, white and red pictures). As your baby gets older,s/he will be interested in other bright colors as well. For 3-month-old babies, it’s also important that they can touch the book that has different texture within it. So, the best books for 3-month-old should contain bright colors and different textures. You can sit beside your little one or let her sit on your lap and then read the book. It’s not important what you read it’s just your voice soothing the baby and she enjoys looking at bright colors. Don’t worry if the book doesn’t have many words that you can read, you can make your own story. Even a newborn can learn to appreciate reading and story-telling. His/ Her eyes will move along as you turn the pages while reading aloud, which serves as a stimulus for arousing interests in books.
How “Books” help babies developing their skills:
- high contrasts & bright Colors: Develops visual system and focusing
- Hearing: Develops further the hearing
- touching: Texture on different pages
- Cause and effect: The texture on book make noises

Customer Reviews:
“I am a total advocate for introducing black and white books at infancy, not to mention colored books as well. This is a great way to introduce your little one to books. My 13-month-old still enjoys looking at this black and white book. ”
“It may be too soon to tell, but my one week old certainly seems mesmerized by the images in this book. And I enjoy feeling that she’s being stimulated by something other than nursing, pooping, and sleeping.”
“it’s something that’s a little bit helpful when I want him to pick up his head while on his tummy because I put the book in front of him and sometimes he tries to look at it.”

“I bought this book for my nice since she has a black and white tiger stuffed animal that she loves. The other pages have black and white animals with cute color glitter details. She loves looking at the pages and pointing out the different animals. ”
“This book is great for anyone that has a child under 6 months. My baby loved it and even though it has simple text the repetition and the bright pictures have what captured his attention. This book was thoroughly loved.”
“This was the first book that really captured my baby’s attention, and she still enjoys it at 16 months. The bold black and white images are easy for little ones to see, and each page has some shiny colored foil illustrating a different part of the image. This adds a lot of visual interest and also makes it easy to talk about colors.”

“This crinkly cloth book is easy for babies to hold and great for teething. It also keeps little hands busy during car rides. Although the manufacturer recommends surface cleaning only, I’ve successfully washed mine inside a mesh lingerie bag on the gentle cycle. And it still looks new. ”
“My daughter since she was 3 months old has loved this book. She’s 5 months now. Once she started grabbing things she reached out for it all the time. It says to surface wipe only, but I threw it in the wash since my daughter likes to chew on it, but it stayed intact. The poetry on there is so melodic and fun to read. I change my voice and make sure to be extra rhythmic when reading it to make it stick. Her favorite is the dragonfly wings. I would say one version of this type of book is enough. There are so many other types of books out there I wanted to give my daughter variety without buying every single type of book.”
“My 4 1/2-month-old granddaughter LOVES these books! She loves the colors and the crinkly sounds they make. They entertain her for fairly long stretches of time. These books are made very well and although the directions say to hand wash, I washed them in the washing machine on the cold gentle cycle with baby detergent and line dried them and they turned out fine. They continue to crinkle on!”

“Great Book!! Very Soft and I love how it has the crinkle pages in it!! My niece is 3 months old and she is gorgeous and has the biggest blue eyes just like her mommy <3 <3 so we call her peepers 🙂 I saw this and just had to get it for her! I’m glad I did very cute book!”
“Been a great book from 6 months and beyond. When she was 6 months, she was a “crinkle junkie” and this book was perfect then. She’s now 10 months and really loves how the animals “peek a boo”.”

I don’t have a young child quite yet, however I know a family friend who has a 2-and-a-half year old little girl who LOVES to touch things. She likes different textures, playing in mud, paint, popping bubble wrap, you name it, she’s all over it!
I’m sure she’d absolutely love the peek-a-boo forest book you’re offering, due to all the cool animals and interesting different textures…very nice reviews! Gives me some great holiday ideas!
Hi Conner,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I mentioned it before that every kid is unique and we need to pay attention to what they like and as you mentioned she is into these kinds of books. I’m also glad you find some gift ideas for her. Hope she will enjoy the book.
Cheers
Yes, I’ve heard that the best books for babies are the ones with black and white contrasting.
Both my kids loved fabric books with crankly pages, they were always fascinated with the feel and the sound. Also anything with animals still entertains both my children (2 and 4 years old).
Hi Lynne,
children at these ages might want to leave your side and explore, but freedom comes with fear and this freaks him out. With his stuffed animal or doll beside him, he may feel less vulnerable. Especially, an animal is someone you can trust and they do anything to protect you (which happens in the real world with pets and owners). Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Cheers
My youngest daughter Cassia still loves to play with her “baby”books even though she is almost 2. She loves hearing the crinkly pages and now she can say a few words she will point and say duck or some other animals.
I think the Peekaboo forest book is great. Kids learn at a different rate and the books are always a ‘go to’ toy.
There is a difference between the red and black and the other books which has colors, why is the black and red better for the younger kids? And Why is it red and black?
It’s a good thing you little one likes her book. It seems that you read to your daughter so I would suggest taking a look at this page, you may find it interesting: http://coolgiftforkids.com/my-very-own-fairy-tale-iseeme
well, the reason is we have 2 different kinds of sensors in our visual system. One is for the intensity of light and the other is for its wavelength (color). So around 3 weeks baby still can’t see any colors and it’s just about light and dark (black and white). When s/he gets to her first month she start to see the first primary color – red. after that, your child begins to see other primary colors. So it’s kind of practicing for young kids to start with black-white-red.
Cheers
wow, i didn’t realise a three year old would benefit from reading yet. is that the earliest ? or should you read to them even earlier? Its really a unique opportunity to teach. they absorb so much information at that age and reading to them has to be a wonderful experience for them. Do you use different voices to narrate the different characters or conce[ts?
Hi Jim,
You can read to them right after their birth. Singing and reading is necessary for bonding and has many different positive effects on your child development. At the first month, it will help them develop their hearing and hear words that are necessary for communications later on. It will help sooth them at the same time. Some book with vibrant, colorful pictures is also excellent for the visual development of an infant. Take a look here: http://coolgiftforkids.com/best-books-for-newborn-to-3-month-old
Absolutely, imitate sounds and talk with different voices will develop their hearing better. You got that right Jim.
Cheers
